Glycerin Soap Making - Is This Type of Soap Making Right For You?

I stumbled upon this new hobby by accident. Some years back, I suffered from a major break out and it seems that no commercially-available soap is doing me any better. I consulted a dermatologist and he prescribed this glycerin-based soap from his clinic.

They are selling it exclusively so it comes out to be really expensive. This urged me to research on how to make my own glycerin soap. Little did I know that a lot of information can be easily found on the internet? And the steps in glycerin soap making are very simple. After the first reference, I tried it right away and it was then that I started using my home-made glycerin soap.

At first, I did not know what glycerin is so I was not very keen on using a glycerin soap long term. I thought that perhaps after my skin condition becomes better, I can shift back to my old brand. But after I researched on its definition, I learned that glycerin is popular for its moisturizing properties. It is a natural soap base ingredient that does not have odor and color and contains no harmful chemicals.

Glycerin soap making follows a very simple process. It is also known as the "melt and pour soap making" because these are the two main steps involved. But first you need to prepare all the ingredients. The most common ingredients are pure glycerin soap, fragrance oils, colorants (if you prefer to have your soap color), a microwave oven or double boiler for melting the glycerin.

For the materials to make the soap you will need a soap mold, any shape of your preference will do, measuring spoons, and a small spray bottle with rubbing alcohol. This is to spray the bubbles that might be created by the soap mixture.

After preparing all the ingredients as well as the materials, it is also wise to choose a work area that is clean and free of any clutter to make sure that your soap will be free from any germs that may contaminate the finished product. The last thing you want is produce natural soap that is full of germs. You are now ready to start with your glycerin soap making.

This is the fun part. It is like going back to your high school years when you do chemistry laboratory experiments. You get to mix and boil and mold. But it is safe because there are no harsh chemicals involved. So fire away and begin the process.

I hope that I was able to share valuable information about glycerin soap making. If you follow these steps, I am sure that you will agree with me that making your own soap will also be a fun experience.
